Holiday hours on Google: do not let customers find you closed

Few things trigger a negative review faster than arriving at a restaurant Google showed as open and finding it closed. Special holiday hours exist to prevent exactly that, and they take minutes to set up.

What special hours are

On your Google Business Profile you can set different hours for a specific day (for example, closing at 4 PM on Christmas Eve) without changing your regular hours. After that day, Google goes back to your usual schedule.

How to set them

  1. Open your profile from Google Maps or Search, signed in with the business account.
  2. Go to Edit profile → Hours → Special hours.
  3. Pick the date and choose “Closed” or that day’s hours.
  4. Do it at least a week ahead.

Google sometimes asks whether you’ll be open on a holiday: always answer, even if only to confirm your regular hours.

The dates that matter most for a Hispanic restaurant in the US

  • US holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
  • High-demand Hispanic dates: Three Kings Day, Lent and Holy Week, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day (US and Mexico), September 15 and 16 (Central American and Mexican independence days), Day of the Dead, Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12), Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

No need to memorize them: our restaurant dates calendar shows what’s coming up and lets you download reminders to your phone’s calendar.

Make everything say the same thing

Besides Google, update your hours on your website, social media, Apple Maps, Yelp and delivery apps. More in listings you should check.

On LocalDual plans we set your special hours for you before every agreed date.
